چکیده

Antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) pose a widespread concern for human health and wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) are considered to be major source of ARG transmission. In this paper, the potential hosts genetic characteristics ARGs in influent, activated sludge effluent WWTPs Xinjiang were studied by metagenomics. Bacitracin gene (bacA), beta-lactamase (class A beta-lactamase), multidrug (mexD, qacEdelta1), sulfonamide (sul1, sul2) persistent antibiotic (PARGs). The mainly pathogens, with Escherichia coli (12.9%), Acinetobacter johnsonii (8.94%), Klebsiella pneumoniae (5.30%) accounting highest proportions. Chromosomal sequences plasmid accounted 42.0% 22.6% ARG-carrying contigs (ACCs) respectively. Meanwhile, contained 58.3% ACCs plasmids 8.30% chromosomes. carried chromosomes, while macrolide–lincosamide–streptogramin (MLS), vancomycin, sulfonamide, beta-lactam, tetracycline, chloramphenicol, aminoglycoside plasmids. ICEPae690-sul1-qacEdelta1 ICEPmiChn3-sul2 stable coexistence structures heighten transfer environment. This study provided clearer picture host bacterial sources context

Exploring antibiotic resistance genes and metal resistance genes in plasmid metagenomes from wastewater treatment plants

Plasmids operate as independent genetic elements in microorganism communities. Through horizontal gene transfer (HGT), they can provide their host microorganisms with important functions such as antibiotic resistance and heavy metal resistance. In this study, six metagenomic libraries were constructed with plasmid DNA extracted from influent, activated sludge (AS) and digested sludge (DS) of tw...

The Composition and Spatial Patterns of Bacterial Virulence Factors and Antibiotic Resistance Genes in 19 Wastewater Treatment Plants

Bacterial pathogenicity and antibiotic resistance are of concern for environmental safety and public health. Accumulating evidence suggests that wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) are as an important sink and source of pathogens and antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs). Virulence genes (encoding virulence factors) are good indicators for bacterial pathogenic potentials. To achieve a comprehensiv...

Prevalence and proliferation of antibiotic resistance genes in two municipal wastewater treatment plants.

The propagation of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) is an emerging health concern worldwide. Thus, it is important to understand and mitigate their occurrence in different systems. In this study, 30 ARGs that confer resistance to tetracyclines, sulfonamides, quinolones or macrolides were detected in two activated sludge wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) in northern China. Bacteria harboring...

Strategies to Combat Antibiotic Resistance in the Wastewater Treatment Plants

The main goal of this manuscript is to review different treatment strategies and mechanisms for combating the antibiotic resistant bacteria (ARB) and antibiotic resistant genes (ARGs) in the wastewater environment. The high amount of antibiotics is released into the wastewater that may promote selection of ARB and ARGs which find their way into natural environments. Emerging microbial pathogens...

Metagenomic Profiling of Antibiotic Resistance Genes and Mobile Genetic Elements in a Tannery Wastewater Treatment Plant

Antibiotics are often used to prevent sickness and improve production in animal agriculture, and the residues in animal bodies may enter tannery wastewater during leather production. This study aimed to use Illumina high-throughput sequencing to investigate the occurrence, diversity and abundance of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) and mobile genetic elements (MGEs) in aerobic and anaerobic s...
